One of the things that I have learned in the past five years is how powerful the bible verse, Ephesians 5:25 is. I would like to tell the young married men out there to really take a look at this scripture and let it soak in for awhile. Men, if we loved our wives like Christ loved the church, we could lower the divorce rate.
My first two marriages ended in divorce because of this. Today, I am married to a wonderful woman that gets the love she deserves and the love God wants me to give. I love her very much. We will never be able to love our wives like Christ loved the church but we can do everything to show our love. I hear women talk about the lack of love their husbands show and I hear men complaining about their wives and how disrespectful they are.
There is not a perfect marriage out there but it can be better. Instead of playing the XBox, hanging out with your buddies or just staying in your man cave, spend time with your wife. Open the car door for her, rub her feet, tell her she's beautiful. Yes, I do fail at this. Not as bad as I used to. My wife tells me how good I am to her and she has never experienced that before. That makes me feel good. There is just something about giving. When I see the look on her face when I'm rubbing her feet.
Men, throw away the pride. Sometimes, being right just doesn't matter. Tell her your sorry when an argument breaks out. There is no score in marriage. When someone wins an argument but ends up in divorce, there are no winners.
Read the bible, pray for your wife, yourself and your marriage. We are called to be the spiritual leader. God bless you.
Eph. 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.
